Workplace Health and Safety

Woman Reading ManualWorkplace Health and Safety (WHS) is the discipline concerned with protecting the health and safety of all stakeholders in the workplace from exposure to hazards and risks resulting from work activities. This includes knowing the hazards of your jobs and your workplace and knowing how to control these hazards. Having written safe work practices and procedures is an essential component of a WHS program as is your demonstration of your knowledge and understanding of the LTC WHS policies and procedures.

The available training courses listed below will help impart that knowledge.

This course will explore how you can be “fire smart” and “emergency ready.” As a Light of Truth Center employee or volunteer, you will learn about conducting effective fire drills, using a fire extinguisher correctly, and promoting general home safety practices. Throughout the course, you will read material about fire safety and prevention, visit other websites to learn more about how to keep safe, and have a chance to learn the material through activities and review questions.

A safe living/work environment is a productive one. No matter the size or type of business, workplace safety procedures are a necessity for all staff. At LTC, this safety consciousness extends to the women we serve. Safety measures protect all of us as well as equipment and business property. Avoiding or minimizing injuries and damage to equipment and facilities will result in fewer expenses and a greater ability to effect our mission. This covers the basics of physical safety and what to look for.

An emergency is any immediate threat to life and/or property that requires an immediate response from the Police Department, Fire Department, or Emergency Medical Services. Some examples of emergencies are crimes in progress, any kind of fire, a serious injury or illness. This cover the basic steps for responding to an emergency.
