The Light of Truth Center sponsored the Recovering Hearts - A Spiritual Journey event held May 25, 2002.  This event was open to all women within the Recovering Community and those who just wanted to share our day.  Blessings were fully bestowed upon us that day.  We are so grateful to all who said "yes".  The event was so successful, that before the day was over, requests were coming in for Next Years event.

Our Third Annual Fundraiser
August 10, 2002

The Light of Truth Center, Inc. held its Third Annual Fundraiser August 10, 2002 at One God, One Thought Center for Better Living, located at 3605 Coronado Road, Baltimore, Maryland.  This event is held annually to generate funds to assist in the daily operations of The Light of Truth Centers' (LTC) Residential House located at 1736 Payson Street in Baltimore City, Maryland.

For our Third Annual Fundraiser we had a tremendous lineup of talent:  Voices of Truth, Major Boyd - Saxophonist Extraordinaire, Maria Broom (from HBO Series - The Wire), Bernette Jones (2002 International Poetry Winner), and LaShaon Hill with singing group Nu Visions. 
Our Fundraiser was a tremendous success!  The extraordinary performance of our lineup of talent exceeded even our dreams.

We gratefully thank YOU for gracing us with your presence.  We know and realize that without you, we would not be here. 

Thank you for taking the time to be a part of our dream and continuing to help by building a life from the inside out!

What is Recovering Hearts...A Spiritual Journey?

The Light of Truth Center, Inc. is dedicated to providing safe and supportive housing for women in the recovery process. 

We are blessed that we have been given an opportunity to serve a community that has often been overlooked.

Sponsoring the Recovering Hearts, A Spiritual Journey, is our way of  "giving back" to the many wonderful women and organizations that have been a part of our journey.

Recovery is a lifetime process. By being a part of this event, women who are just coming into the recovery process (with only a day to a few weeks of clean time) are given an opportunity to see other women who have sustained substantial years of recovery; anywhere from 1 year to over 25 years. 

This is a demonstration of hope.  This is an opportunity for growth.  This is truly a journey of spiritual growth.

How Many Songs Do You Know?

I was talking to a friend the other day and she said she heard it through the grapevine that The Light of Truth Center, Inc. (LTC) is having a celebration of recovery and wanted to know what's going on?  I told her yes, they are having a Celebration and come what may we've got to be there.

Well then, my friend said that LTC is truly an organization that proves that love is like a heat wave and touches everyone.  She said that it takes two to get to higher ground, and knock on wood, she was going to support them.  Well, I second that emotion and said let's get on it and to keep on truckin' to support LTC.  She asked if there was going to be dancing in the street?  I told her probably not but the celebration might be all night long.

We discussed what becomes of the broken hearted and without hesitation we said that LTC takes care of them.  They are everyday people doing extraordinary things.  I reminded her there ain't nothing like the real thing and LTC is the real thing.  They love the women until the women learn to love themselves. It's a shame that a lot of people ask where is the love 'cause all they have to do is check out LTC.  Their motto is "somebody loves you no matter what."  That's where the love is today.

She asked if she should invite Jimmy Mack or Bill.  I reminded her that she was three times a lady and don't mess with Bill 'cause of what happened last time.  She fell out laughing and said she ain't too proud to beg.  Well you know me (I can't help myself) I told her it's  the same old song and to let it go before she was in quicksand again.  She told me not to be so uptight, everything's alright and to tell Bill hello.

I told her that I had to get on up and to "git to gittin" and that I would see her at the Fundraiser.  We know it's going to be a blast and we're getting our tickets signed, sealed, delivered.  So c'mon, reach out, I'll be there.

A.The Light of Truth Center.  The Light of Truth Center, Inc. is a Baltimore-based, non-profit organization dedicated to providing safe and supportive housing in an environment conducive to recovery, transition and restoration for women recovering from addictions. The Center facilitates education, empowerment, enlightenment, education and healing for the women it serves. At the Light of Truth Center, women live as a family unit, providing for each other the real-world support necessary to recover fully and permanently.

A.6:00 p.m. 

Q.May I purchase tickets at the door?
A.We recommend you purchase tickets ahead of time through http://bethelight.eventbrite.com or at (church) during the following dates and times: Saturday: 10:00 AM-12:00 PM and Sunday: 11:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Tickets will be available for purchase at the door ONLY if there are un-purchased, open seats.  This event is sure to sell out, so get your tickets ahead of time!

Q.Is seating assigned?
A.Seating is first-come, first-served.

Q.What portion of my ticket is tax deductible?
A.5% of the ticket price is designated as payment for our Event Planning site (Event Brite) and PayPal payment processing.  The remaining 95% of your ticket may be tax deductible as allowed under Federal tax guidelines.  As always, please consult your tax advisor.

Q.Do you have a refund policy?
A.As this is a fundraiser, refunds for this event will not be provided.  Please call 410.733.0553 for more information

Q.Where should I park?
A.Parking is available on the church parking lot as well as on the neighborhood streets.  Volunteers will help to facilitate the ease of parking.

Q.Will refreshments be available?
A.You will certainly feel spiritually refreshed after Dr. Vanzant's lecture, but please get physically refreshed prior to your arrival.

Q.Is access available for individuals with physical disabilities?
A.Basic ADA access is available.  If you require support due to your special needs, please call 215.269.6870 prior to June 22, 2009 to advise us of your needs.

Q.What is your policy for attendance by children?
A.Children certainly are welcome to attend, but we advise that childcare arrangements be made for children younger than 6.  Also, there are no discounts for children.  Full price tickets must be purchased for each child attending.

About Green Roof Giveaway.

Cole Roofing respects all the work that non-profits do for society. That' why they decided to give back to the organizations that have already given so much.

They are experts in roofing, it’s what they’ve been doing for four generations and over 90 years. From restorations to re-roofs to repairs, Cole Roofing takes their work very seriously. They offer many sustainable solutions when it comes to roofing such as green vegetated roofs and solar integrated roofs. There are many reasons these roofs are considered sustainable from storm water management and energy efficiency to conserving resources. Because these are the “latest and greatest” when it comes to sustainable solutions, that is exactly what they are giving away.

One organization will receive a free vegetated or solar integrated roof, and one organization will receive a $5,000 donation from Cole Roofing.  And with your assistance we are eageraly awaiting the announcement that we have won!

After organizations make their cases, it’s time for the public to cast its vote on who is most deserving. Voting can be done through Facebook or their site. After one month, voting will end and the winners will be chosen.

What a wonderful opportunity for LTC to fulfill part of it's dream...Going Green.  We envisioned right from the start renovating our new facility by adding green components; roofing, hot water system, etc.   Being Green, in the long run, will allow us to put more of our monetary funds on the women and services, rather than in a building.  This opportunity has come along right on time. 

So we did out part and made the deadline and have entered the "Green Roof Giveaway" sponsored by Cole Roofing.

Now it is time to do YOUR part!  GO TO http://greenroofgiveaway.com/nominees/nominee-detail/?nominee_id=45, and VOTE!  The site does require you to register.  You can do so with an existing FaceBook account or your email account.  If you register with your email, all they ask for is an email address and that you set a password.  Once you register they will send a confirmation email to your email address to verify it.  Click on the line.  Once you verify that your address is correct - that's it!  Start voting.  EVERYDAY!  For the next 30 days, make it a habit to vote for LTC - remember, when you do - you are helping us to build lives from the inside out!
